A Setback, For Now

The results are in, and they are disappointing: My wife Kim is not a match to donate a kidney to me. I can't say I'm surprised: This would be my third transplant and I'm awash with antibodies from the first two, which makes it difficult to find a match for me. The odds weren't really in our favour, but at least now we know.

These is, however, a plan B! In Canada we have a Kidney Paired Donation Program, where patients and their families can "swap" compatible living donors with other families. We've already begun the workup for this next step, and of course Kim is all in because she's awesome that way. You can learn more about it here:
